History

The Nomadic Peoples Network was first launched by Dr Malcolm Hunter after a meeting in the UK well over ten years ago.  The Network has worked to encourage communication between workers in nomadic ministry across cultures, countries and continents.

The centerpiece of the Network’s activities has up to now been the Gatherings that are held for proven practitioners every three or four years. These have been held twice in UK, once in Pasadena, CA, and twice in the Middle East. These Gatherings have provided opportunities for practitioners with proven field experience who normally work in very difficult and  isolated environments to share various case studies and discuss pertinent topics one-on-one with others who are struggling with similar issues and challenges.

Dr. Hunter hopes that the Network will be continue to be of benefit to people around the world who are reaching out to nomadic groups.

The latest gathering have been limited only to practicing field workers. The goal of theses Gatherings is abundantly achieved through the mutual exchange of experiences as problems and successes were openly shared. There is generally no need for formal lectures by a so-called “expert” as the participating individuals, couples and even families give their case studies, allowing people practicing in this unique field to learn from one another. This is the culturally appropriate oral sharing and learning process by which we believe God can best show us how He wants these most neglected of the unreached to be brought into His fold.

It was Jesus, the Great Shepherd Himself who said, “Them also I must bring!” We all come together as learners, gleaning from each other and it is in that spirit that we hope the Network will continue to encourage and serve, following the command and example of the Chief Shepherd, inviting those “other sheep that are not yet in His fold” to follow Him too. “Then there shall be one fold and one shepherd.”
