Membership

There are three levels of membership in the Nomadic Peoples Network.

Practitioner Membership is open to anyone who has enough experience to be able to contribute to the body of knowledge from their personal experience in this field, meaning practitioners with a long term commitment, even if the experience has not always been positive. We can sometimes learn more from our mistakes than our successes. Another level of Associate status will be offered to those who are interested in ministry to nomads but who are not experienced practitioners. Communication for Practitioner Membership will be conducted over secure protocols.

Individual Practitioner Members know each others e-mail addresses so they can communicate directly if they wish, especially with those working in similar stages of their outreach or church formation. Those wanting to join the network at a Practitioner Member level will be expected to prove their credentials before being given access to that list of addresses.

Practitioner Members can use our secure website for communication.

Intermediate Membership is offered to individuals who do not have extensive field experience in work with nomadic people, but who are in a support position for nomadic ministry or are on a track to nomadic work.

Non-practitioner Membership is open to anyone who is interested in nomadic work and people groups.

How can we help each other? There are certain common cultural features that are peculiar to nomadic peoples which have been found helpful in understanding the world view and values of others. There are also strategies, and approaches that have proven particularly appropriate for NPs. in general that can assist in the learning of ideas and best practices for winning entrance and gaining acceptance amongst them. Some approaches and traditional mission practices that have been effective amongst settled people can be obstacles to the acceptance of Christianity in the mind of a nomad. We can learn from each other how to avoid making those inappropriate mistakes, or at least to minimize the damage.
